Computing

At Lammack, we intend to deliver a high-quality computing education which equips our pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

Central to computing at Lammack is online safety and the importance of using technology safely and responsibly. We intend for all of our children to be well educated in internet safety. Internet safety is now embedded within the subject and taught in all year groups. We aim to prepare our children for their future endeavours within a society that is growing increasingly dependent on technology. Computing has an increasingly significant impact on all aspects of modern living. We want our children to become aware of this both in and out of school. As well as developing their skills and understanding through practical computing activities, children are also challenged with problems that promote computational thinking across the curriculum.  We aim to ensure that the children at Lammack receive a fully rounded education which takes into account of the importance of Computing in the wider world. All children have access to computers, laptops, iPads and a range equipment and software that develops their skills at their own level and ability.
